Digging In is a regular series of blog posts profiling UDig employees. We hope this series helps you get to know our team and understand why we dig what we do! Today, we are sitting down with Matt Hill, Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition.
UDig: Tell us a little bit about your background and your role at UDig.
MH: I have spent most of my career in technology recruiting and am currently the Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition for UDig’s Virginia market! My role at UDig is focused on bringing exceptional candidates to the company that will help continue to grow and expand our already talented team of consultants.
UDig: Why UDig? What made us the right decision for you?
MH: For me, it was leadership. Sitting down with Andy, Gordon, and Josh and hearing directly from them about their visions for the company going forward, and the vital part that Talent Acquisition plays in that future was the biggest draw for me. Usually, in a recruiting process you don’t get to hear directly from the company decision-makers, but here at UDig, you do.
UDig: What does “Do What You Dig” mean to you?
MH: Being excited to come to work every day. There’s the old cliché of “if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day” (or something like that) and “Do What You Dig” is in that same mindset. Every day, I’m excited to get the day going and facing the everyday challenges in recruiting and that’s what I dig.
UDig: How has recruiting and UDig’s culture changed over the last few years due to the pandemic?
MH: The remote workforce and the recruitment of that workforce has had a huge impact on recruiting and our culture. Employees have proven in the remote world that they can be just as productive and successful as in a physical office. UDig quickly adopted a Work from Anywhere program, allowing employees to choose where they want to work. We prioritize our employees’ work, growth and well-being. It doesn’t matter to us where they do their job. Our team is still close-knit and working towards the same goals.
UDig: What is your favorite procrastination tool?
MH: YouTube. Easy.
UDig: What did you want to be when you grew up?
MH: NFL Quarterback, didn’t pan out for me though.
UDig: What’s the most played song in your library?
MH: #41 – Dave Matthews Band
UDig: How would you spend your day if we told you to take the day off?
MH: My wife and I really enjoy traveling with our daughter so maybe doing that or maybe going to one of the many local parks here in Richmond…or playing golf.
